Flower Girl Dresses #4

Started some sewing this morning!
This first section I feel will be the most difficult as it requires me to bunch up the sash that goes around the front.

Then, I had to make sure that the tie sashes for the back match up with the bunched up front sash.
I had to redo one of the side seams because the back/front sashes didn't match up.
Because I have to severely alter the pattern I had for the dresses, I'm already afraid that this bodice will still be too big for my girls. I had purposely cut it a bit bigger than I thought I would need it. It is much better to have it too big and sew it all in more vs having it too small and having to start all over again! I'll have my girls try the bodice out for size after they come home from school and then we'll see where I'm at!

Flower Girl Dresses #3

Yesterday morning, I measured up my girls so that I could cut out material in the afternoon. Boy, are they misproportioned and good thing I know how to sew! Their chest size measures for that of a 12 month old and their height is of a size 4; they are 5-1/2 yrs old! Much altering of my pattern I shall have to do! So the material is all cut out and I shall start putting some of the top together today during my baby's nap time!

Flower Girl Dresses #2

I was able to get all the materials needed for my twins' flower girl dresses. JoAnn Fabrics had tons of coupons last week and I used all that I could possibly use! I finally got around to washing all the material.
I have 5yds of a white satin material, several yards of white tulle, and a few yards of a black lace. In the wedding party, the bridesmaids will be wearing black dresses. The black lace is going to be a nice accent used for the flower girls; the lace will be bunched up in the front for a sash and then tied into a big bow in the back. I hope it turns out well since I will be altering the pattern I'm using to accomodate my ideas!

Slowing down

I am caught up on all sewing and yarn projects, I have taken pictures of all my items, all items are listed, I set up shop on Zibbet (can't have all my eggs in one basket!), and one craft show is behind me. Now I have time to slow down and do some projects for my own family! When I started making my crocheted fashion hats, my twin girls E & J have been really wanting one! I need to sit down with them and let them rummage through my yarn stash to see what they would like used for their own hats. Now that it is no longer tundra weather in MN, Baby A is too warm in his fleece Baby Co-Z's. I am going to the store today to get some cute flannel material for his spring/summer Baby Co-Z's. Hubby has worn thru his flannel pants that I made eons ago. He doesn't like how commercial flannel pants fit on him so I'll be making a pair for him. My oldest, T, wants a matching pj top to go with his skull fleece pants. I already have the material so I just need to whip that up. Then, for the big project...E and J are flower girls in June. I have material for their dresses sitting in my closet. I'll have to start getting those together! I shall be blogging about my making those dresses. I look forward to that!

Flower Girl Dresses

I've been commissioned to make two flower girl dresses! My 5 yr old twin girls are going to be flower girls at their god-father's wedding in June. The bride-to-be wasn't too pleased with the prices of store bought dresses (I wasn't either since I'd have to pay for 2 of them!) and she suggested that I could make the dresses.

The bride gave suggestions of what she would like my girls to wear and I suggested to her what kind of material I could use. It is so much fun getting to design the dresses! I'm waiting to hear back one last time from the bride. Then, it's off to the fabric store to get my supplies!

I'll post from time to time the progress I make on the dresses.
